United States Army Veteran Cliff Cahoon won the drawing for the latest in a series of patriotic quilts made by local quilters Valerie Lamont and Judy Lockner. Cahoon served from 1969-70 in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division and is the recipient of three Purple Hearts. Cahoon has been sharing the story of his deployment in Vietnam through a series of monthly articles in the Ferry County View. He currently resides near Republic.

The drawing took place on May 24th at the Colville Pour House during a Memorial Day Veterans fundraiser. The quilt was presented to Cahoon by two other local veterans, Inar Frostad and Derek Fogle, the latter of whom was the winner of a quilt last summer.

Lamont and Lockner have created several other quilts that have all found homes with local veterans, including the most recent, which went to a female WWII Veteran, Jean Thomas. “We hope that the quilts will offer comfort and underline our appreciation for their many sacrifices” Lamont says of the program.

Entries for the next Veteran Quilt drawing are being accepted now. If you would like to nominate a veteran or are a veteran yourself, you may submit an entry for the drawing at the Colville Pour House, or entry forms will be available at the TEDD office, 986 S Main, Colville, WA, 99114.
