The Community of Springdale has something new to be excited about this summer: the Aug. 14 grand opening celebration of Springdale’s newest restaurant and coffee shop, Corner Table and Corner Cup. The celebration will take place once construction is finished but the drive thru is currently open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. while construction continues. The restaurant is located on the corner of Highway 292 and Main St. in Springdale.
In June of 2020, Halona Ezell and her family made the move to relocate from Texas to Springdale. Halona, her husband, two children and parents all made the move together and purchased raw land to build a home on. Soon after, Halona’s friends and current business partners Melinda Mayes and Tiffany Richie, followed her from Texas. All three friends fell in love with the quaint charm and simple way of life that Springdale offers.
However, it was apparent to the three friends that there was a lack of the creature comforts available locally. There was nowhere to get a good cup of coffee or a hot meal unless you made it yourself at home, or took a drive to a neighboring community. Melinda and Tiffany already had experience running businesses in Texas. Melinda ran a food truck while Tiffany ran Brew 30 Tap House, a craft beer bar in Cypress, Texas. They also co-owned Rockwell Grill before relocating to Washington.
In December 2020, the friends purchased the Springdale property that included the building that had previously been a gas station, mechanic shop and most recently the Kountry Korner restaurant. They got to work cleaning and renovating the building. Upgrades have included installing new wiring and plumbing and adding a second restroom. Once finished they will have indoor dining, outdoor seating, two restrooms, and updated finishes throughout. For those who choose to continue with social distancing, the restaurant boasts a garage door opening and outdoor seating area, in addition to the drive thru.
One of the hurdles they have had to overcome is finding good help during the pandemic with all the restrictions that were in place. Luckily, they chose a small community that really understands helping each other and were introduced to their current construction crew – Detail Drywall and Construction. They are finally on track to have construction completed by their grand opening date of Aug. 14.
Halona, who is managing the coffee shop, has a passion for whole foods and healthy alternatives. The coffee shop features Thomas Hammer coffee, espresso, Natural Luna Energy drinks, and bubble teas. Treats include scratch made cinnamon rolls, pastries, and cookies. She also offers an extensive menu of gluten-free and sugar-free options.
Melinda and Tiffany will manage the Corner Table restaurant, and Tiffany will also run future bar operations. The indoor area will have a café counter style during the week with a full breakfast menu on the weekend. The restaurant menu will feature Texas-sized portions of scratch made items such as half-pound burgers and fresh-cut fries or chips, wings, country-fried steak, pulled pork sandwiches, and generously portioned salads. The Corner Table restaurant will offer around 15 job positions, mostly part time with a couple full-time positions as well. If interested, pick up an application at the drive thru during normal business hours.
The Corner Table owners said they are also “actively seeking local farmers who would like to work with us to bring local fares to our menu.” If you know of a local famer who would like to supply the Corner Table, please contact Melinda.
While the Corner Table has only been in town for a short while, they have already made it their mission to give back to the community. They have donated to Mary Walker Senior High School Students’ Senior Breakfast, the local animal shelter and rodeo. They also plan to donate 10% of all proceeds from Springdale’s upcoming three-point shootout.
“We want to be a gathering place for those in our community,” they said and offer daily discounts for senior citizens, veterans and first responders. But in addition to being a place for locals to gather and eat, they also plan to offer necessities like bagged ice and propane for sale.
The Corner Table and Corner Cup is sure to be a great success with such amazing support from the community. The owners want to thank the local community for the support they have received and look forward to becoming a big part of the local community.
Corner Table and Corner Cup is located at 110 North Main Street in Springdale. For more information call 509-720-7768. You can also follow them on Facebook.
