With the holiday season quickly approaching, you’ll start seeing the iconic Salvation Army Christmas Red Kettles at your favorite locations. It is at this time that Salvation Army begins looking for enthusiastic people to ring bells by the familiar Red Kettles, which have helped raise much-needed funds to support their community outreach services and programs that they have provided for nearly 130 years. The kettles will be out this year from November 22 to December 24.Â
The Red Kettle campaign provides employment for those seeking a hand-up, not a hand-out, as well as volunteer opportunities for individuals, service groups and churches wishing to help our most-vulnerable neighbors during the holidays.Â
Funds raised with the Red Kettles help those in need during the holiday season by supporting the community outreach programs provided by The Salvation Army. For example, did you know that in 2018 The Salvation Army assisted more than 151,000 people with over 43,000 nights of shelter and 3.2 million pounds of food and other basic needs? Financial gifts in the kettles helped create this positive change for children, women and men in our community!
Registration for Employment Orientations in Spokane, Chewelah, Deer Park and Cheney will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, October 15 through 30 at The Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave, Spokane.
In addition, there will be walk-in orientations and hiring opportunities at the following locations:
- Chewelah Food Bank –Â 302 E. Main Ave. (Nov. 4, 10am-12pm)
- Deer Park Greenhouse, 211 N. Fir Ave. (Nov. 4, 1-3 pm)
- Cheney Outreach, 616 3rd St. (Nov. 13, 10am-12 pm) Â
With fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year – meaning less days for the Red Kettles – volunteers are greatly needed. Volunteers choose the location, date and shift that fits their schedules. Bell ringers can split a shift with a friend or sign up as a group. All are welcomed!Â
