Food Bank hosting three fundraisers during October

The Loon Lake Food Bank is hosting three fundraiser events in October: an afternoon paint party, bingo night, and flea market.

The Paint Party will be held at the food bank on October 15 from 1-3 p.m. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. All supplies (paint, canvas, brushes, step by step instructions) will be included in the $20 entry fee. Our instructor Ori is very talented and makes it easy so that every painting looks amazing. Bingo will be held October 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the food bank. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be food to purchase, and each bingo winner will receive a gift basket. Blackout winners will get a 50/50 split. We have room for 20 players, so call ahead to reserve your spot. The cost is $13 for regular games, which includes one blackout. Additional blackout games will be available for $2 each.

We will also host another Flea Market on Saturday, October 29 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please stop by the food bank during regular hours, between 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, to sign up and reserve a 10 x 10 spot for $10. We are hoping many vendors from the community will come and join us.

Volunteers Needed

Grocery Rescue Ride-Along. We are looking for someone who can ride along on Friday mornings from 7 a.m. to about 12 p.m. to pick up groceries in the Spokane area.

Box Carry-Out – We are looking for strong individuals to carry boxes out to vehicles that drive through the food bank. Be aware that boxes weigh around 30 pounds.

The rising cost of food is making a huge impact on the food banks. Agencies that help us so much – 2nd Harvest and Northwest Harvest — have let us know that food sources are going to be in short supply this winter. And on October 22, all government programs will be finished. Grocery Rescue sources are down as well. The amount of food we receive varies, but everyone gets something. We ask our clients to please be patient and know we are doing the best we can.

We do have baby clothes available (size newborn to 3 months) and some blankets on hand. We hope to have some winter hats soon.

The Loon Lake Food Bank has some amazing supporters, and we are so grateful for them. Some big, some small, but every dollar helps keep this food bank open. I would like to give a big shout out to SAVAGE-THC. For the past several years, their employees have donated their tips every couple of months to the food bank.
If you have questions or need help, give us a call at 509-233-8450 or stop by the Loon Lake Food Bank at 3945 Fir Street, Loon Lake) between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Please let us know if you need help applying (or renewing) for your food applications.
