County signs agreement for Nine Mile School Resource Deputy

Press Release

The Spokane County Board of Commissioners has executed an interlocal agreement with the Nine Mile Falls School District, Stevens County, and the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office to hire a School Resource Deputy (SRD) at the Nine Mile Falls School District.

The Nine Mile Falls School District boundaries incorporate portions of both Spokane County and Stevens County. Approximately half the students attending the school district reside in Spokane County while the other half reside in Stevens County.

Spokane County will equally share in the cost for providing the SRD with Stevens County and the Nine Mile Falls School District during the term of the interlocal agreement.

Commenting on the significance of this agreement, Spokane County Commissioner Al French stated, “I am very pleased that all the partners came to the table to get this done. This agreement is all about keeping our children and school staff safe. In addition to improving school security, it will also improve the relationship between law enforcement, students, and school personnel.”

Stevens County Commissioner Wes McCart added, “It is of the utmost importance that we protect our children and provide a safe learning environment for our students and our community. Nine Mile Falls School District, Spokane County, and Stevens County had the opportunity to partner for an SRD that provides this benefit, and we are happy to help in keeping our local community safe.
